Pixofarm is a pioneering company for software solutions that help apple producers optimize their harvest by measuring and predicting fruit size. The basis for the prediction is based on measurement data, which is determined optically with cameras and then created using artificial intelligence, forecasts, and analyses.
With Pixofarm, we were able to develop a measurement technology prototype that exceeded all expectations in field trials.

Concept
The concept phase for Pixofarm focused on a mobile measuring station that could be quickly set up and dismantled at a wide variety of locations. In addition, different variations in measuring heights had to be implemented with a single system. Due to the different installation locations, a lighting concept also had to be developed to ensure sufficient illumination of the measuring area.
Product design
During product design, special attention was paid to the separability of components and the compact transportability of the system. The installation time for the system had to be as short as possible, and the forces required had to be manageable by one person.
Prototype construction
For the measurement technology prototype, we were able to develop and build a waterproof electronics housing with a display user interface. In addition to the processor component, the optical measuring elements were also integrated. Adjustable lighting for the measuring area was also incorporated into the prototype.
Product development
From the outset, Pixofarm had a clear goal and defined requirements for the measuring device. With clearly distributed roles and targeted teamwork, we were able to develop and implement all the necessary hardware components in a very efficient coordination process. Thanks to the great cooperation, we were able to achieve optimal interaction between the hardware and software teams.
3D design
From the outset, development was supported by CAD design. The entire product was modeled as a digital twin in order to anticipate and communicate geometric factors and to generate production data.
